Table Tennis England removes DBS supervision exemption: From September 1, 2026, anyone working with children needs a background check

Table Tennis England has announced a webinar scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 18:00 to 19:00 UK time, to explain changes to DBS requirements. The session will be led by Kyhl Daly, the designated Safeguarding Officer. The main focus is the removal of the 'supervision exemption' from the legal definition of Regulated Activity under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. From September 1, 2026, coaches and volunteers working with children in table tennis, whether supervised or not, will be treated the same. They must hold a valid DBS check before engaging in regular activities with children. The webinar is aimed at Club Welfare Officers, committee members and volunteers who regularly work with children. Participants will learn about the updated regulations, how they affect roles within clubs, and the DBS process managed by Table Tennis England. The governing body encourages clubs to review staff and volunteer lists early to avoid disruption. The changes represent a stronger safeguarding framework for junior table tennis across England.
